Time to Spare, LLC is a corporate and non-profit event planning and custom gift service, celebrating over 18 full-time years in business in the Northeast Ohio area. Initially registered with the State of Ohio in 1995, Time To Spare became an individually owned LLC in 2011. "Marketing through Recognition" is its goal, providing clients with more than 30 years of event planning, marketing, public relations, administration, and office management experience.
During the past five years, Time To Spare assisted 22 Greater Akron area non-profit organizations in raising nearly $2,000,000 combined through their annual fundraising events. 275 private parties and events were planned by Time To Spare, while 450+ articles, event coverage, & press releases were published on behalf of Time To Spare clients during this period. More than 600 custom gift packages were created for client's special occasions, along with 900 custom packaged school supply kits from 2009 - 2010. Time To Spare owner Deborah McKinney successfully reported and wrote the "Unsung Heroes" column for ScripType Publishing of Northeast Ohio for five years, featuring random acts of kindness by area youth. The 1st Annual Akron Event Expo held in 2011 brought together more than 100 guests who gained information from 26 event planning resources available within the Greater Akron area. The 2nd and 3rd annual events held in 2012 and 2013 gained more in attendance and exhibitor resources. By 2016, Time To Spare, LLC expanded beyond Northeast Ohio, working with GoodCities of Minneapolis, MN and Clemson University of Clemson, SC, where she plans nationally attended conferences.
A founding member of Bath Business Association, Ms. McKinney has held the positions of Vice President, Newsletter Chair, and Publicity Chair. She has held the position of Ambassador member of the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce, KNOW of Akron (Knowledgeable Network of Women), where she is a frequent speaker, Women's Network of Northeast Ohio, serving as the 2014 & 2015 Women of Achievement Event Planner, and Bath Volunteers for Service, serving in many leadership roles since 2003. She successfully co-chaired the 2009 Bath Home Tour. An active member of the Bath Church United Church of Christ, she served on the Youth Board and has been a Wonderful Wednesdays program instructor. Annually, she serves on a variety of church outreach committees. Ms. McKinney has been an active member of The American Cancer Society Cattle Baron's Ball Diva committee for nine years, where she has held the positions of Event Co-Chair, Auction Chair, Publicity Chair, and Table Captains Chair. She is a volunteer for Stewart's Caring Place, Cancer Wellness Center, where she served as the 2015 Butterfly Gala Co-Chair and 2016 Event Planner.
October, 2012 brought the publication of McKinney's inspirational self-help book, "Whatever Works for You: A Working Woman's Guide to Surviving a Busy Life While Maintaining Peace," which landed on the publisher's (Inspiring Voices, a division of Guideposts) best seller list and was ranked #162,281 out of over 8,000,000 books on Amazon.com by mid-December. Book reviews have appeared in publications including The Akron Beacon Journal, Akron Life magazine and nationally as far away as the Dallas/Ft. Worth Star Telegram. McKinney's book can be purchased on-line internationally through a number of distributors including Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com, as well as InspiringVoices.com. Locally, copies are available at Garth Andrews in Bath, The Mustill Store in Akron, and Conversations & Co. in Tallmadge.
Ms. McKinney's experiences are shared through life management speaking workshops presented to business, networking, community, and special interest groups throughout the year. Session topics include "Showing Kindness in Business," "Achieving Balance in an Over-Scheduled World," and "The Spirituality of Hope," along with "Surviving Spring & Summer Effortlessly," "Surviving the Holidays Stress-Free," and "Fall Into Philanthropy."
July, 2013, Time To Spare, LLC was awarded first place in the 10th Annual Akron Life Best of the City contest as 2013 Best of City Entrepreneur. Time To Spare, LLC owner Deborah McVay-McKinney was also chosen first place winner as 2013 Best of the City Author by reader's votes. Ms. McKinney is a graduate of Leadership Akron N.E.X.T. Class IV, where she is a member of the Alumni Association, assisting with the Annual Meeting and Progressive Akron event planning. She serves on the board of Bath Community Fund of Akron Community Foundation. Her work is being featured in Currents of Cleveland, Ohio February, 2017 issue, "Celebrating Women."
